Details: Charm of Oriental Clothing. Near the Lake - Viewing Pavilion built in the Tang Dynasty more than l,000 years ago, a pavilion for storing imperial books was put up in 1699, during the reign of the Qing Emperor Kangxi. In front of the latter, an open-air terrace jutting into the lake almost at the same level as the lake surface, has the name "Autumn Moon on Calm Lake". The name "cheongsam," meaning simply "long dress," entered the English vocabulary from the dialect of China's Guangdong Province (Cantonese). In other parts of the country including Beijing, however, it is known as "qipao", which has a history behind it.
