Remark: Good seller. In comparison, the use of oil as a medium is relatively new. Introduced to the Ching (Qing) Imperial court, oil painting was perceived as a Western novelty by the Qing emperors like Kangxi, his son Yongzheng, and his grandson Qianlong. Talented Western Jesuit priests familiar with European painting techniqes, such as Sickleparth, Attiret, Castiglione and Panzi, served in the palace and drew portraits for the emperors. However, oil painting remained a curiosity and novelty. This is not to say that these Jesuit artists were not appreciated. In fact, they were expected to work with traditional Chinese painting materials, and as a result, their work was a synthesized Sino-European style

Details: Writing brush has such a long history that prehistoric painted pottery, inscriptions on oracle bones, bamboo slips and silks are all writing materials for brush. Some ancient writing brushes were also excavated in the graves of the Spring and Autumn Period, the Warring States, the Qin and Han Dynasties. In the Tang and Song Dynasties, Xuanzhou became the national writing-brush-producing center, whose products were called "Xuan-bi", and "Zhuge-bi" was the best in quality in Xuanzhou. After the Yuan Dynasty the brush-producing industry of Huzhou boomed, and "Hu-bi" replaced "Xuan-bi". The characteristics of "Hu-bi" were sharp, neat, round and tough. The name "cheongsam," meaning simply "long dress," entered the English vocabulary from the dialect of China's Guangdong Province (Cantonese). In other parts of the country including Beijing, however, it is known as "qipao", which has a history behind it.
